A London sit in may

A week in London with a cute Cocker spaniel

Mara, 4 years old,  was adopted 10 months ago by Oliver & Serena as her owners could not keep her any longer. This adorable Cocker spaniel lives since in a house with a tiny garden near Notting Hill, in London.

Every morning after breakfast and late afternoon we took her to Holland Park or Avondale park. Both were very close. Full of energy, Mara was impatient to run and play. We had been told she needed at least to walk 4 miles a day.

We were amazed by the amount of dogs left unleashed, even in lanes or paths where it was forbidden (fines cost 100 £!). Many were running after balls but no one tried to steal another dog's toy. There was never any agressivity, just a few hellos with sniffings and that was it.
Mara was a very easy dog : she walked calmy when leashed, never pulled, and looked very happy when unleashed to run freely. The recall was perfect.

Even if she could stay alone for 3 hours, we took her everywhere with us : to pubs and restaurants, very often "dogs friendly" in England. She behaved always very well, lying under the chair, never begged.

We took her also on buses when we planned to go further, to Hampstead Heath. Passengers were nice and tried not to hurt her, as she never accepted being held in arms for long and prefered to crawl on the ground.

As the weather was very sunny, with a dark blue sky, almost like in Greece, gardens and parks were invaded by Londoners and tourists. Such an incredible heat for mid-may.

We met several dog walkers holding different breeds, up to 6 at the time. Huge or tiny.

Bowls of water were often placed in front of shops, offered in pubs.  The restaurant where we took lunch had a nice "Doggo water station" inside the garden.

Although Mara was not allowed to jump on furniture, we found her sometimes on the sofa in the sitting room, on our bed or the bear skin upstairs when we had forgotten to close the door of our bedroom.

We could hardly resist to her supplicating eye, accepted she remained a little by our lap, she seemed to expect cuddles...  When we invited her to go back to her couch, she brought us her favorite toy, ready to play ball again ! Addict, for sure.
