A dog, 2 cats, 5 fish and 2 tortoises in Spain

A week in the south of Spain with 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 turtles & 5 fish

Reaching " la Cajita" in 2 days was more tiring than we thought : it meant to drive 1 200 km from Provence, half of the way under heavy rains and strong winds. But the fatigue was quickly forgotten once we arrived. We were nicely welcomed by Suzan and Jackie with a delicious dinner.

The owners' modern house has been built on top of Puntabella, a small touristic resort in Murcia region, close to Andalucia. Views on the mountains and the islands from the top terrace were astonishing. In spite of the strong winds we enjoyed to stay in the low season. In summer the area is probably overcrowded.

Suzan & Jackie love animals and rescued many pets through the years ; they own 5 dogs but as they prefered to travel with 4 of them, we were only in charge of 1 !

Lily, a tiny Chihuahua looked very athletic : in spite of being12 years old, she was able to climb several times per day the 40 steps between the front gate and the lower gardens. Much quickly than we did ourselves !

This cute and mature female loved to be cuddled and followed us everywhere. She usually slept on her couch but after 2 days prefered obviously to stay on our bed.

We had been told that Lily did not require long walks, disliked long journeys and that she could be left alone several hours. So when we decided to visit Carthagena, then Lorca, she stayed at home.

We only took her in our car when we went to the beaches or to restaurants : drives were short.

The shores were deserted at this period of the year It was unfortunately much too cold mid-march to go for a swim in the sea or even in the owners' pool.

If Lily was allowed everywhere in the house, the 2 cats were confined in a small compound, kept far from the dogs. Both slept in a tiny room next to the shelter built under a terrace. A tree trunk was their only distraction...

Smudge, a 15 years old Persian and Saffa, a 12 years old siamese, had a difficult start in life but were rescued early. These 2 felines seemed to be used to exiguity, although Smudge tried to escape everytime I opened the door...
The 2 fluffy cats enjoyed company. They loved to be taken in arms, combed and brushed. They never protested although they did not know me. A pullover could have been knitted with all their fur !

It took me 2 days to find Iggy: I had looked in the wrong garden ! This male turtle loved to eat lettuce in the sun. Cocco, the shy female, remained invisible during all our stay.

The 5 red fish were not very communicative. Every morning, they hid in their pond, obviously afraid when I was approaching too close to give them colored flakes of food.

The crocodile and flamingos did not need to be fed !
