A week in Umbria (Italy)

8  days near Perugia, with a cute dog and a rather shy cat

Bella, 9 years old, had a tough life before being adopted by Caroline and welcomed in her big house with a garden near Todi.  For many years,  this cute little dog lived in the streets, hiding under cars...

This sweet  rescued dog,  with probably  basset vendéen roots, still does not feel concerned by balls or sticks : she has never learned to play !

Oakie, a 3 years old shy cat ran away when he saw us for the first time. We had been told he would be our best friend as soon as he would see one of us put some  food in his bowl....  But it took 4 days before he  trusted us and seemed ready for cuddles !

Curious, this ginger cat showed up sometimes by our room's window, climbing on the roof but still hesitated to come inside.

Oakie spent most of the days outdoors, and prefered to sleep on Caroline's bed, while Bella had the choice between several couches downstairs.

She  never went on furniture, never tried to visit us upstairs. Sometimes Oakie slept near her near the fire place.

As we did not want to let her alone, we took Bella everywhere with us when we did tourism : Umbria is a superb region. We visited together Orvieto, Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Todi and Monte castello di Vibio. One of us was waiting outside when the other wanted to visit a church. Or do  some shopping at the nearest  supermarket.

Although small, Bella courageously climbed steps at her own rythm  but we prefered to hold her in arms in escalators to protect her paws...

Bella behaved very well in cafés and restaurants, she tried to beg a few times but we remained firm. A bit tired with so many walks, she found asleep  deeply under the tables when we had lunch, and again in the car,  on our way back. In spite of many turns on the road, she did not cry or bark, remained always quiet.
Once back to Caroline's home we were often welcomed by  Oakie, who seemed delighted to have company again
