October in Switzerland

October 2021 in Switzerland: 9 days with a puppy

When Smita &  Suryakant   chose me to look after their 5  months old Golden retriever, I was delighted : I'm fond of puppies.  Young dogs grow up so quickly ! I drove 5 hours to reach Nyon, a little town near Geneva. To stay with Truffle during 9 days while her owners were on holiday in Portugal.

Truffle (17 kilos)  was already well trained, accepted the leash, did not pull much,  obeyed different orders, sat gently at the crossing lights, in the lift to the flat.

She was the star in the streets, everybody wanted to approach her. She was so cute ! She loved to go around, to sniff lawns and shrubs, around her owners' home.

Truffle accepted easily to be taken in my car.

She did not protest to be attached on the fasten seat belt on the back seat : walking more than 20 minutes would have been too tiring for such a young dog.

This pup was curious and very  sociable : she liked to meet all types of dogs ; she wanted to play with  big or small ones, like this tiny 2 months old cocker we met one morning on the edge of Leman lake.

We played a lot together, and she knew perfectly she was not allowed on the sofas. She tried to but in vain. I put her down everytime  : I always respect owners' routine.

She never protested either when it was time for her to go to sleep in her crate at night and during her long naps. She was a puppy who needed to rest a lot.

She had, for sure,  a few soft toys to play with. But I was feeling more miserable than she to leave her in that cage in the corridor. Although she did not seem unhappy at al and fell asleep quickly, all her dolls around her.

I became anxious when Truffle faced digestions problems (diarrhea, constipation, vomits) so I called immediately her owners on their vacation resort : a decision had to be taken... They thought it could wait their return,  I insisted upon them to call their vet. Who thought it was an emergency...
I took her to the next door clinic.I stayed with her when they put a cathether in her vein, the best way to give her antibiotics. The perfusion lasted 45 minutes ! She remained very calm.
Truffle  seemed really cross with me when I put a collar around her neck, to prevent her from biting her pad.
She hated it, did not manage to see well with it, was hurting walls and it made a horrible noise probably in her ears !

She seemed to not like me anymore, she avoided me, turned her head but it did not last long : she could not resist any cuddle...

Since I left Switzerland, I called her masters a few times to get news :
in march 2022 Truffle, 9 months old already, had become quite a big lady... I could see that on the photos I received.

Rules had changed : I've been told by Suryakant  she was allowed by her masters to go now on sofas...
